cake smash

I couldn’t wait to do this shoot w/ Heston. If you know me, I love doing events and shoots outdoors – especially in the woods. Nature just calls me I guess. I already had my vision, it was just a matter of  when to do it. With a busy wedding season now over, we finally made time a week after his birthday.

If you’re wondering what a cake smash is, you’re not alone. No one really knows where the idea came from, but it has been around for the last 10 years or so – I never had one, or had I ever even seen one growing up. Seeing pictures though, it looked really fun to create. Plus it’s really easy to do. The clean up isn’t fun, but looking at the photos +/or videos is worth it.

Any beautiful park would work. I discovered Sherwood Park – absolutely gorgeous. There was a particular spot I was looking for, but due to crazy rain and carrying too many things, we picked the nearest isolated area.

Heston was so cute, once we sat him down, he was super polite and picking at his cake with his thumb and index finger. After joking around and showing him how to do it, he got the hang of it. Enjoyed it a lot actually; took handfuls of cake. I’ve added a list below of items I used to create this shoot. Hope you guys recreate your own cake smash + leave me comments. Make sure to tag me on Instagram so I can see them.

I just wished I was able to bring back some cake… it was so tasty hehe.
